The Battle in the morning
By the evening of the 16th, McCllellan had about 60,000 troops ready to attack, which was double the number of Lee's army. In the morning, the battle took place at Miller's cornfield. There, the Confederates charged, but the Union held them back and finally succeeded in driving them back. After about three hours, about 10,000 soldiers on both sides lay dead or wounded.
The Battle around noon
The battle at midday was stationed near Bloody Lane. The Union and Confederate troops fought on Bloody Lane. The Confederates used Bloody Lane as kind of a trench. After a long struggle, the Union soldiers finally succeeded in driving the Confederates back. In the end, about 5,600 soldiers from both sides lay dead or wounded.
The Battle in the afternoon
Near Burnside Bridge, about 450 Confederate sharpshooters hid behind trees and shot at the incoming Union soldiers. After a few hours, the Union soldiers finally broke through. The Union soldiers then drove back the Confederates. About 300 Confederate soldiers fled in the battle. The Confederate forces lost this one too. There were about 3,000 casualties in this battle.
